BEHIND THE BRUSH

“I had a vision a long time ago of Disney’s Original, “The Jungle Book” movie poster. However, above Mowgli and the rest of Rudyard Kiplings iconic characters there is a tear in the poster. Inside the tear, gazing out the darkness there is an intense stare. A stare from the single piercing eye of a Black Panther. By the the name of Bagheera. A testament to his character and mission. To be the protector and all seeing eye over young Mowgli, amongst all the dark forces deep within the jungle.”

“To really capture Disney’s art within it’s storytelling I knew I had really go back and take a deeper look this time into their old methods of magic that created what we now call today, Disney’s Golden era. I found that the Medium the artists were using to create this aesthetic we now love is called Gouache. Using various techniques of Watercolour. Providing a lighter, more tender, and artistic feel. Contributing to the film’s distinctive, “watery” and “airy” look, ensuring a vibrant and playful tone. Opposingly, the piercing eye of Bagheera. Gazing through the tear in the poster intensely at the viewer was created with Oil Paint. Purposefully chosen to create the distinction of two worlds. Two realities. The innocent, playful perception Mowgli has of the Jungle from his young age and lack of experience versus the gritty, raw perception Bagheera carries in his eyes alone from time and wisdom. Captured in realism.“
